Health Services

The Health Room’s purpose is to provide medical attention and first aid treatment to children who become ill or injured during school hours. The Health Room is not an extension of the doctor’s office or considered a dispensary. The Health Aide is not authorized to dispense any type of medication including Tylenol or aspirin unless there is authorization from the Department of Health.
Children sent home from the Health Room with a fever over 101 should be fever free for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
A child with a hacking cough and/or runny nose with green or yellow discharge belongs at home in bed whether he/she has a fever or not. If your child has diarrhea or a stomachache severe enough to restrict his/her usual activities, he/she should be kept at home.
Many diseases causing a rash are contagious. A rash my be the first sign of one of many childhood diseases. A doctor should be consulted if there are any questions about a rash.
*Please remember – sick children belong at home and in bed! If your child is not feeling well, please do not send him to school with instructions to report to the Health Room. He/she should remain at home. Children sent to school when ill do not function well in class. At Helemano, we love our students and we want them to get the much needed rest that they need so they can get better.

Mandatory Uniform Policy

On July 11, 2005, Helemano Elementary School initiated a mandatory uniform policy. All students are required to wear a school uniform shirt from Monday through Thursday. Each Friday is a "free" dress day when students are able to wear their choice of clothing approved under the school's standard dress code.
Student logo t-shirts may be purchased in the school office from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM at $4.00 each. Helemano PTO subsidizes the cost to keep prices low. The t-shirts are available in three colors: green, gold, or gray. Sizes are from child's xsmall (2-4) to (4-16), Adult (sm to XXL= $8). Green polo shirts are also available for $8.00 (children) and $10.00 (adult). Students may wear appropriate shorts, pants, or skirts.
Thank you for your cooperation in making Helemano a safe place for all children. Uniforms ensure that students can be quickly identified, and students have no pressure to dress a certain way. Mandatory uniform policies are always difficult, but they help students to concentrate on learning and school. Thank you.
